Parking Charge - entered Licence Plate incorrectly

Am in the process of appealling a Parking Charge Notice issued by Smart(!) Parking.
We were issued a PCN after parking at a hospital car park having paid for the time we were there. I have the original ticket.
My wife went to pay for the ticket when we arrived, but for some reason (whether the machine would not take the full details or my wife made a simple mistake I can't be sure) the full registration number was not entered.
Subsequently, a PCN arrived 9 days later.
Have had my direct appeal (sent a copy of the original ticket with the partial reg no to them) to Smart Parking rejected not because they say we didn't pay, but because by not having the full license plate number on the ticket apparently we breached the "terms and conditions" of the ticket.
This sounds incredibly unreasonable and unfair.
Now we have to go through POPLA.
Is there any chance they (POPLA) would be more sensible? After all, we did pay.

Read the NEWBIE thread.

Complain to PALS at the hospital and ask them to get it cancelled along with constructing your POPLA appeal (all covered in the FAQ!)
Put the draft up here for comments before sending it0 -
Thanks for that.
No PALS at this place. . Hospital in question run by NHS Property Services. Have emailed them, but probably get fobbed off.0 -
PALS don't run any hospitals!0

which is why the MP,s debated this twice in parliament , once a year ago today , once on the 02 feb 2018 and today in the committee rooms where issues like yours were mentioned
watch the tv recordings on the net and see why EVERY mp dissed these companies and their dubious solicitors and trade bodies etc
POPLA make decisions based on legal arguments , not gut feelings , so it may well be that it fails there too, in which case if SMART try an MCOL let a judge decide
where does your local MP stand on these issues ?0
