I have a 2011 2.2 TDC Ford S Max. There is an engine management light on and the diagnostics say one of the dpfs is blocked by soot. It does a lot of motorway driving so I can't see why it wouldn't have regenerated. Thing is, I can't work out if it would be covered by the Ford Protect Warranty if it needed replacing. There is an exclusion clause, but there is an exclusion under the exclusion clause saying that it does not relate to lifetime diesel particulate filters where the odomoeter reading is less that 70,000 miles. I've done 60,000. How can I tell if I have a lifetime diesel particulate filter and am therefore covered? Thanks !!

Give the warranty company a call and ask, be nice if it was covered rather than the usual wear and tear clause. I think you are right to be miffed with the amount of motorway driving you do.

If its the same system as the Mondeo, the nozzle that injects extra fuel
into the DPF gets clogged. Possible it has not been able to do a regen
    because of that.

The longer it goes without a regen the more likely it is to get blocked.

  • Quick update. Turned out the vaporiser blocked up, which caused the dpf to block up and it could not be regenerated. Ford Protect agreed to cover it. What with the EGR valve failing a couple of months ago and this, the money I (reluctantly) spent on Ford Protect has proved well worth it. I'm never getting another diesel though.
  • Hi, I’ve had a similar problem today. My S Max is just under six years old (2013), 65k, well serviced and ought not to have this issue with soot build up. I’ve had to pay over£1k to get a new vaporiser, hosing and goodness knows what else. It’s too young to possibly have this issue! I called Ford Customer Service to get them to help and got a computer says no answer from both the agent and a supervisor which said ‘it’s over 5 years, no one can do anything’. I said at some point in the Dord Hierarchy there would be someone with the ability to offer to pay half. No joy....

Can anyone offer any advice on what next? Is Ford Protect a different helpline to customer services? How can I get a sensible adult to talk to me? Thanks!
