I have a Kodak Pixpro AZ251 Digital Camera the quality settings are - Normal, Best & Fine.
I use it on the Best setting.
Can someone please tell me why I would use the fine setting as when I selected it the storage on the SD card increased by about a third so I thought it can not be producing better quality photos?
So what is it for?

Take a photo in best, take a photo in fine. Transfer both to your PC and zoom in and you'll see the difference. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

The quality settings in order are Normal (lowest), Fine, and Best.
It's all to do with the amount of compression used in the final image, clearly Best will give you the highest quality image but will also take up the most space.0 -

..when I selected it the storage on the SD card increased by about a third so I thought it can not be producing better quality photos?
So a 3MB photo using Best is a 4MB photo using Fine. Why don't you think that would be higher quality?

I believe that what the OP meant by "storage on the SD card increased by about a third" was that they could now fit more pictures onto the SD card ie picture size was now smaller.
OP has added a little to the confusion by listing the qualities in the wrong order as neilmcl says they are (in order of improving quality) Normal Fine Best from the instruction manual....
"There are three options for picture quality:
• Best (Average File Size: 4.0MB)
• Fine (Average File Size: 2.5MB)
• Normal (Average File Size: 2.0MB)"0 -

The best setting gives the best pictures. The pictures with the fine setting are fine. I'm not sure what's normal about low quality pictures.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
