help! burning hot towel rail!

hi
im hoping someone knows how to turn down a heated towel rail!
sounds bizarre i know- but there is no thermostat i can see, and its suddenly got burning hot! i was so worried i turned it off!
its a towel rail but eletric and the temperature has suddenly increased since the power switch fuse spur box thingy (as you may have guessed not too good with the terminology!) was disturbed by a plasterer.
the electric cable is fed through a plasterboard wall into the next room which was being decorated...
i cant see how this is related as there isnt a control on the power box thing either.
basically i am stumped! has anyone else had similar problems with towel rails?? - its a bog standard chrome one... and all the bars etc i.e. the whole thing is burn yourself hot!
any suggestions appreciated
thanks

  • For now switch it off and leave it off untill you can get it checked out by an electrician.

Better to be safe than sorry
  • i thought as much - thing is my only experience of using an electrician was £££'s!

worried that an electrician may cost more than a new towel rail!
  • Do you know a local handy man or neighbour who could give it a quick check to confirm you havn't disturbed anything. I'm not familiar with towel rails but I'm sure if i saw it i would be able to work it out.
But bear in mind that if its in the bathroom or kitchen legally it needs a qualified person to carry out any work on it.
