Got paid for PPI from 20 years ago

Just a quick note to say "Thank you!" to moneysavingexpert. I spent 10 minutes filling in the online form and sent the email, not really expecting anything.
But I got a letter from Lloyds a few weeks later, and a few weeks after that I had 1400 quid paid into my bank account.
This related to a loan I took out 20 years ago. So don't worry that too much time has passed - the worst that can happen is that they will say no and you will have wasted 10 minutes. In my case I got a very welcome payment.
Thanks guys!

If you dont mind me asking how much was the loan for? I'min the same situation with 4 different loans around that time frame for between £2k and £5k.0

It has no relevance because every situation is different - if you had consolidation loans for example or paid off the debt early etcSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have a similar situation where I had a loan for 8 months from Sept 1989 until May 1990 which apparently had PPI on it. I can't remember how much it was for - probably under £8k at a guess. So if I paid £10 a month for PPI for 8 months I'm guessing I'm not in for a huge payout!!0

No you wouldn't be, but you'd have to complain and have the case upheld and have records proving what you paid in order to get anything (assuming it wasn't a pre-regulation complaint of course).Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

Using MSE I made an enquiry with Lloyds about any PPI I may have had over 30+ odd years with them - I've changed banks since..
They sent me back a 12 page form wanting to know almost everything finance wise from way back when!?
Is this a sickener to put me off?
They have not said whether or not I had PPI at some stage, and I really don't know TBH. I simply asked them if I had had it?One life, get it lived :cool:0 -

They assume any contact about PPI is a complaint. You aren't expected to remember everything but they need to know if there was an issue with eligibility for a claim or if you had other issues that would invalidate a claimSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
