I have benn having trouble contacting the garage owner and when I last visited the site to find the garage was closed down I could see my car in a locked compound with a number of parts missing not sure what to do next to get my car back and with all missing parts replased

Call the Police - they will probably say its a civil matter though.

Find out who the official receiver is, if they have gone under.

Good luck - you will need lots.

What people will tell you NOT to do is NOT hire a trailer and NOT hire a battery or petrol grinder and collect your car.

You have your V5C don't you?

Strange how it will have been registered to him, taxed and insured by him before it went into the garage. Most would say they would imply ownership.

It implies nothing. Otherwise based on that logic finance companies would not own a single car. Although ownership will be the last of his worries when the landlord calls the police and they then up and see criminal damage and trespas

Before attempting to recover the car you'd need to establish where they keys are and if it actually runs. No point breaking into a yard to discover that you can't move the car anyway.

Are there any notices on the building about recievers, change of ownership etc? That'd be the first port of call to find out if you can get in touch with someone about it. Or do you know anyone who knows any of the staff? Tried asking in a neighbouring house/unit?

Finally, companies house would point you to the owner of the business or land registry to the owner of the land.

Hopefully you can find someone who has keys and will let you recover the car with some proof that it's your car (V5, insurance docs). The receivership may still want the bill to be paid.

How much is the car worth in it's current state?

Police won’t be interested, trespass will be civil and they’ll record the damage and not investigate it.

I’d say the op could reasonably prove the car was his.

We still don't know how long the car has been there, nor what size of garage it is. Is it a small garage, and maybe the owner has been taken ill or simply gone on holiday? Is it definitely closed down for good? Does the OP know the person who runs / ran the garage, and can approach them at home?
