Professional reclaim services added VAT?

Options
Hi, I recently used this reclaim company to try and get back PPI from Black Horse. This fell flat as Black Horse claim to have no knowledge of me, however, they did find that I'd paid PPI on a bank account from years ago and I knew nothing about it.
I received a cheque from Barclays and was waiting to hear from Professional Reclaim Services so I could pay them the 39% that I'd agreed. 39% is alot I know but it's 39% of money I would never have got otherwise.
Anyway, today I've received an invoice for the 39% but they've also added 20% VAT which I wasn't aware I would have to pay.

Can they do this?

Thanks

Presumably after all this you realise that to get a company to post your complaint off, you did all the work needed and could have complained yourself and kept the 39% + VAT? I know some stamp collectors pay a lot for old stamps, you won't find many who'd pay £x000s for a new one though!

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

It's a shame you didn't post on here before you decided you needed to use a CMC and pay them 39%.

    That name is an oxymoron.

Their service is subject to VAT. So, yes they can and not doing so would be illegal.

39% and VAT for a stamp and 5 minutes work. Crazy money.

While we always advise against using any Claims Management Company, you have no one but yourself to blame for signing their contract which clearly states that VAT would also be payable.

Alleging that you were "not aware", is just an admission that you did not read what you were signing..

  • Is it really 5 minutes work or does a lot of questions need to be answered followed by weeks of investigation? Professional Reclaim Services have now changed their fees to 20%+ VAT, it’s a shame you didn’t read the T&C’s before signing with them as it’s all explained in there. You’ll know that next time you sign up to a company in the future. :money:

CMCs have to supply the same information you do if you DIY. The CMCS get the info from you. So, is it quicker to put the info on a simple form or letter format or give it to a CMC over the phone?

Very expensive for using the free of charge complaints process.
