You realising they still owed you the money now in 2018 and raising it with them, I would say you've received incredibly good service from them if they have quickly reconciled their ledger to agree that they still owe you the refund and have agreed to pay it. Accept your good fortune and move on!
If keeping hold of a customers money for 5 years is your definition of 'incredibly good service' I'd hate to think what you'd consider poor service!

I've have met at last count 3 solicitors whose initial advice in my first consultation turned out to be incorrect.
The advice given here is as likely to be correct as that from a yellow pages random solicitor's 15 minutes.0
