hiya guyz,
im having the old dropped connections at inconvenient times problem. ive checked all the usual, had the house rewired from nid to master socket and its till doin it. pipex and bt both say the lines fine. however on the adsl status page for my router ive noticed the following
snr margin downstream 6.5db upstream16db
line attenuation downstream 63.5db upstream31.5db
could these figures have anything to do with my dropped connections?
whats the average bb user s stats?
thanks in advance, this has been going on since feb when pipex upgraded me to 2.2meg. they refuse to cap my bb at 1meg to see if it makes a difference
plz help

Your downstream attenuation of 63.5db is the maximum most routers will report although it could be higher - indicates very long distance from your exchange. SNR margin of 6.5db is just on the limit for a stable adslmax connection.
If its a "fixed rate" your on then I agree that a reduction from 2 meg to 1 meg will help. It will give you more snr margin to play with and maybe a stable connection.
Have a read of this http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/connectionprobs.htm the low snr margin bit in particular and see how you get on.
Just for your info my attenuation is 54db, snr margin 10db (tweaked with dmt) and sync 4096 kbps. Samknows http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php reports my straight line distance as 1.43 km from exchange but in reality its about 4 km.Keeping the pedants at bay - dot an i or cross a t only if you feel you really can't stop yourself:p0
