Help to buy ISA - Claiming Bonus

My girlfriend and I are buying our first house - hoping to complete in the next few weeks.

We both have the Help to Buy ISA with Halifax and therefore need to claim the bonus for the deposit. Our Solicitor has quoted us £60 each to handle this on our behalf, which seems a lot.

Is there any way of doing it ourselves - if so - how?

Thanks

As far as I'm aware you cannot claim the bonus yourself, it has to be done by a solicitor. It's to stop people from using the money for anything they want, rather than using it towards a house purchase. Not great, but I haven't heard of any other way of doing it!

    £60 is the going rate.

That price is about 10 minutes time for a solicitor charging at £300 per hour, so it seems reasonable.

Its the set maximum, they will pretty much all charge the maximum so its fair. Just think to yourself that you don't get a bonus for your final £200 and that it will cost you £10 to do it

It has to be claimed by your solicitor and you have to go into branch to close the account so that you can get the closing statement to give to your solicitor to do so. Please note you might not get the statement that day and the electronic copies of the statement should be acceptable for your solicitor to do the necessary.

£120 does seem a lot did your solicitor not give you a price to cover all their work? I paid less than £600 including all my searches, bank transfers etc.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
