unknown debt paid by who??

Hi
I'll keep this as short as possible
yesterday i got a phone call from cabot financial, they refer to a RBS credit card debt from back that they say originally defaulted back in 2006, i said i know nothing about the debt and have been in very good financial standing for many years with the RBS until recently when i unashamedly - after advice from this website - switched to TSB for the free cash
. I presumed i had been the victim of some identity fraud, but to my astonishment they say it was being paid off in £10 monthly instalments as recently as 2016 when the payments then stopped, and they (cabot) took it over. I honestly have no idea what this is, i have asked cabot for the bank details of where the £10 was being paid from, it certainly wasn't being paid by me, but they say they may not be able to supply me with them due to data protection, its being passed to disputes dept or something. Today i called into the RBS and they cannot help or supply me with any info due to data protection.
Anyone any idea what to do from here??
Thanks
