We looked forward to getting the mortgage paid after 25 years. We have an endowment policy that went off track so had to do part repayment. We also changed provider -early use of taking some advice - some 19 years ago (I have the letter from the new / current provider stating mortgage had gone through from that time).
However when the payment document came from the endowment company they had the old building society as the named interest, and in truth I had not realised or been told that I needed to confirm that they were no longer my mortgage provider.
I visited the new provider in person and they stated 'all' I needed to do was to write to the endowment company with the mortgage account number.
So I have written to the old supplier without response, written to the endowment company with all the paperwork I have (twice) and writen to the current providers head office. Again no responses.
The endowment company are also asking for the "original policy schedule" I have 25 yeasr of papers but not this !
Has anyone been through this - its becoming a nightmare and I dont know what to do next. It seems a deliberate mechanism to make switching a problem.

When the old mortgage was repaid, the solicitor who handled this should have recovered the policy document from the lender and obtained a notice reassigning the policy to you, or assigning it to the new lender if it was required.
In addition to the old lender, you might wish to contact the solicitor to see if it's sitting on your file, assuming the file remains intact.I am a mortgage broker.
