Estate Agent acted as broker for PPI

Options
Hi, can anyone help please. I took out a mortage with Halifax which was arranged by my estate agent. I have paperwork from Halifax that states a fee would be paid to the estate agent for arranging the mortgage. I believe the estate agent played on my fear of being a single parent, and persuaded me to take out 2 insurance policies, one for Mortgage Payment Protection and the other for Accident, Sickness & Redundancy. Both of these policies were taken out with Legal & General. I also took out 2 further policies with Legal & General, one for Life Insurance and the other for Critical Illness.

Does anyone know if I can reclaim PPI, and if so, from whom, the estate agent or Legal & General?

Which is quite normal. After all, the bank is paying the broker for some of the work being done that the bank itself doesn't have to do. Plus, it also means the broker carries the liability for advice and not the bank.

Brokers have a requirement to make you aware of risks and issues. It is their job. So, what you consider bad is actually what they are meant to do.

Estate agent carries liability for the advice. However, most estate agents were not regulated until after January 2005. So, if you bought before that date it is pre-regulation and they wont need to consider it.

Some estate agents were agents of L&G but this was typically only on the life assurance and long term health products. Not short term general insurance.

You havent actually said what the estate agent has done wrong. So, its difficult for us to comment on whether you have a case or not.
