Except that you should never take paypal and allow goods to be collected.

I stand corrected and honestly didn't know that, but off to Google other alternatives for my ebaying.

I'll alter my post too so others don't do the same as me.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

It's basically the buyer can claim they did not receive the item and start a chargeback, you would not be able to defend it as you wont have tracking to show it's been delivered, so you will be minus the item and the money.

Could you get them to sign something to confirm that they've collected it? Sorry, just thinking out loud as I've never bought or sold anything that valuable on eBay (and likely never will)!

I agree with other posters - engagement and wedding rings achieve very little on the second-hand market. Offered £800 for a diamond engagement ring that cost £3k to purchase and wedding rings are only worth their weight.

Apparently sellers have even been known to have photographed the buyer collecting the item, but EBay still found in the [STRIKE]scammer[/STRIKE] buyer's favour :wall:

It really is a scammer's paradise.

I should add the markup on Jewelry is crazy and as stated 7K of Jewelry at retail value is most likely 2K tops. The problem with valuations is it Jewelers doing it so they don't want to look like they sold you a 2K ring for 7K !.

It is worth going to somewhere with lot of Jewelers who buy rings etc, Is the ring certified ? That really helps with the value and could be well worth paying for if it isn't.

Depending on where you are I know of some good Jewelers in Bath etc. Nothing to stop you sending it to a local auction house too.

Ebay should be fine with Cash on Collection in my opinion.
  • Hi caprikid1, I also have a ring I need to sell, and live in Bristol. Which are the shops you would recommend in Bath? Thanks.
