How much my road tax?

Hi

Basically I am a first time car buyer.

I am looking at a 2013 Citroen C1 VTR+ 5 door. The dealer told me that the road tax is £20. I have checked online and the CO2 emissions are 99. It also states this on the advert he gave me.

Should it be free? I don't want to be fed lies and pay it when I don't have to but I am not 100% sure to be honest.

Thank you!! :)

If registered after April 2012, it should be free according to this checker - http://carfueldata.dft.gov.uk

To be fair, even if the dealer is correct, it won't be a deal breaker for £20 and the system won't let you pay if it is free

If the car really is 99g/km then it is zero tax (but you still have to tax it, just not pay anything)

You may find that this car is over 99g/km, it will say on the V5, I believe there was a change to the C1 from manufacture in April 2012, so if it is old stock then it will be to the old spec. and £20.

You won't be able to pay anything online anyway if it is zero tax, the DVLA look it up based on the number of the V5 when you try.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))
  • Thank you both!

At least I won't be charged incorrectly.

I've recently found a very handy little app called KnowYourCar which is also free. If you're looking to buy a car it's even more useful as it instantly gives you the MOT expiry date and lets you view the entire history including any advisories

It also tells you when your road tax is up for renewal
