Tips for private selling

Hi

I am leaving the country and need to get rid of my car.

It's on a PCP (I know, I'm an idiot) and the pay off fee is about £9000

We buyanycar will offer me £7645 for it. That's before fees etc and the man takes £££ off the value for every nick. EEEEEEEK. Evans Halshaw will offer me even less (but they do say online they'll beat a WBAC quote. Probably by a quid). The original dealership don't really wanna know.

Now, I've tried placing an advert in autotrader. That was £40 and got 14 views online!

Has anyone had any luck privately selling a car of highish value like this? What would be the best route to take? I'm at a bit of a loss. I can't believe WBAC is the best way to sell my car.

It's a 17 reg Hyundai i10 if that info is important.

You can try a local garage to see if they will do sale or return?

Alternatively you might have some luck with Tootle. I sold my car to a dealer using them. Took some haggling after an initial low offer, but got the price I would have expected from a private sale, so was very happy.

  • What country are you going to, and are you permanently leaving the UK...?

"Hello finance company, you can come and collect my car now. Yes, I'll send you a cheque for the outstanding balance..."

    This is MSE, after all...
  • My uncle recently died a new Toyota Aygo with 246 miles on PCP , my sister was the executor..........to cut a very long story short and trying everywhere it eventually went to auction.

Remember the first cut is the cheapest,

I presume you're not going to the EU? If it were me in those circumstances I'd take the car. When I moved to Italy I went in my 12 year old Fiesta loaded to the gunnels. I used it there for 6 months, then drove back on holiday before selling it and returning by air. At that age it wasn't worth re-registering, and similarly when I moved back to the UK when I owned a 12 year old Fabia. If I hadn't moved I'd have kept both cars.

The difficulty of driving on the 'wrong' side is much exaggerated.
