AXS tickets London O2

Hi all,
A friend bought tickets for us to go see Iron Maiden at the O2 in London this August, from the AXS tickets website. He is now unable to go as he will be abroad with work.
According to AXS this means that I cannot go either, as he will not be there with debit card/ID to confirm that the tickets haven't been touted/sold on. They have advised that the tickets cannot be 'reassigned' into my name under any circumstances. Whilst I appreciate the principle of preventing resale, this seems like a ridiculous situation, particularly since AXS will not offer a refund either.
Has anyone else had a similar experience with AXS and managed to resolve it? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
AJ

Take his ID and debit card and tell the truth on the door?0

I wouldn't be surprised if they were just saying it to try and discourage touts and that you'd be fine when you actually turn up on the day. The reality of the situation is that your friend bought two tickets and so the company should expect one stranger to show up! And anything can happen in life, which may prevent the purchaser from going.
You could potentially take a photocopy of your friend's ID (passport/driving licence) as well as a photocopy of the card used for payment (front and back). Maybe also some proof that your friend is out of town (flight details etc). Chances are the security guards on the door will not even check the ID and, if they do, as long as you are polite they will probably just let you through (they don't always care other than stopping you from getting in with dangerous items).
Maybe even ring up AXS and offer to provide this.
It might be a bit short notice but you could also look into the possibility of CANCELLING the tickets and then re-ordering under your name only. But you'd be at the mercy of the cancellation policies, which don't always favour consumers and there may not be availability.
Ultimately, though, but the contract is between your friend and the retailer and THEY have to sort it out. It would be unfortunate if YOU have a contract with your friend too (ie you paid your friend to source the tickets) because sadly, as you have found out, you don't have any power to do anything regarding the initial contract. You should have bought your own tickets directly.0 -
Iron Maiden did this last year, according to their T&C's you can get the booking transferred:
