En suite refurb

Options
I am based in Hampshire.

I have received an estimate for our en suite (approximately 5 feet by 5 feet) to be completely refurb'ed to include:

removal of all current bathroom furniture and tiling
complete re-tiling of walls (using tiles we supply)
fitting of lino floor (we supply the lino)
fitting of new basin, toilet, towel radiator, shower cubicle (they supply)
new electric shower (they supply)
skim and repaint the ceiling

The new basin and shower etc have not been selected yet which is why I assume this is an estimate rather than a quote.

The cost is £6320 including VAT.

This sounds extortionately expensive to me (however, maybe I'm wrong).

Could anyone else let me know their thoughts? Given we are Hampshire I gather regional differences will impact on the price.

Many thanks for any and all replies.

It is expensive, given that the detail of their quote is awful and they haven't mentioned anything about what they will be tiling onto.

What happens when the surface of the existing walls is ruined by removing the tiles (a miracle if it isn't). What will they be putting on the walls before the tiles?

How will be they be prepping the floor for the lino?

Who provides adhesive and grout, etc?

Have you had any kind of discussion, with visuals, brand names etc of what sanitaryware you'll be using?

The fact you're using lino makes me think this isn't going to be a particularly high spec design, the detail of their quote makes me think it's a poor quality build. The price suggests otherwise, but how do we actually know?

I would expect a decent job, with decent contract quality fittings to cost upwards of £5,000, but that includes everything, including the things you're providing and a much more comprehensive list on that quote.

Obviously, from that point, the sky is the limit.

I'm not impressed by the quality of that quote. especially after a recnt thread where everything, including basics, seemed to be an extra.

Thank you - definitely no discussion so far on what component choice will be available. The lino is our choice (wife likes it). I thought I might have been a little unfair to the company given I didn't transcribe word for word above, but having checked the estimate, I didn't leave anything significant out (other than they'll clear the rubbish).

These people were not our first choice (third actually) but unfortunately the two others who came recommended by neighbours have turned down the opportunity to quote. Getting <anybody> seems to be a challenge in itself :(

I will continue looking though - £6.3k is more than I'm prepared to spend.

Donyou know why they've declined to quote?

What did you talk about? Timescales? Budget?

First simply said (after many attempts to contact him) he wasn't looking for any new work (I gather he was if not in retirement then not far from it) and the second did not respond to messages left/emails sent. There are a couple of others I will try and I may try again for 'no response' guy.
