When I was with EDF on monthly fixed DD I complained because every time I submitted a meter reading the system generated a new bill. I expected one bill per quarter.

They offered me quarterly billing with quarterly variable DD for the actual sum owed.

[ETA: There was no change of tariff in my case, so no financial penalty]

Well that might be but at the end of the day
    ITS MY MONEY

I don't understand this bit, especially if you have been using DD payment before. All energy companies use projected usage to set a DD amount. And all energy companies will have 'our money' during the summer months, as people generally use less gas/electric in those months than in winter, but pay the same amount each month.

If you're not happy about them having 'your money', then come off the DD plan and pay when you receive the bills. It will be more expensive, but if you're not happy with them having 'your money' in advance, that's the way to do it.

EDF set my DD at a level I wasm't comfortable with. I rang them and suggested a different amount which they accepted.
    Give them a ring.
