Screwfix Returns Policy?

All this hinges on Screwfix accepting my return, otherwise I'll use it until it burns out and return it as defective.
Dewalt is trade quality, and you may find it harder to burn out than you expect. Stopping up the air vents should do it.
These multi-tools are simply not very powerful for this sort of job. Maybe, a trade up to 400w will make all the difference to cutting speed, but I am not all that hopeful, and in any case the wear on the blades will be just as bad.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
OP, you are slagging off Screwfix before you have even attempted a return, Your return has nothing to do with the 30 day warranty: you are rejecting it as faulty under CRA, as is your statutory right.
My experience of Screwfix is that they refund on faulty items without question: I took an RCD socket back about a year ago and they didn't even open the box.
It's a 30 day money back guarantee, the tool has a 3 year warranty. I'm not slagging Screwfix off, just them saying that the 30 day guarantee is only applicable if the item is unopened and unused has taken me by surprise, which is what I questioned here.
What chance does the average joe have of knowing if a tool is up to the task without jumping in at the deep end and buying a professional trade level tool? I done research and read reviews, the recommended DIY tool was the oscillating multi-tool saw, I bought a respected brand name one, and it lacks the power to do the job I'm trying to do.
The 30 day money back guarantee was my peace of mind in case it wasn't right for the job, which has turned out to be the case but upon reading the fine print, my peace of mind was perhaps an illusion. This thread has restored my confidence somewhat and I'll know better once I take it back this weekend. If Screwfix was just down the road, I'd have tried before creating the thread but as an islander, I am not afforded that convenience and it's a half-day trip that will have to wait until the weekend.0 -
I was fitting some laminate flooring at my mothers house last weekend and needed something to undercut the door frames with.
I saw Screwfix have a 30 day Money Back Guarantee so I ordered an oscillating saw online, collected in store, and went to my mothers house.
Unfortunately, I don't think the saw is fit for purpose. It's rather underpowered and struggles with hardwood. Blades just gum up, the tool struggles to make the cuts and gets very hot. I cut one door frame and the blade was burnt out. I even got paranoid and checked youtube on how to use the saw in case I'd randomly forgotten how and was doing it wrong.
So unsatisfied that the tool is not fit for purpose, I want to return it but the fine print says tools must be returned unused. How am I supposed to know if I'm satisfied with an item if I cannot use it first? The 30 day money back guarantee is just a con then isn't it?
I suppose the policy stops people returning items for 1 off uses.Official MR B fan club, dont go............................0 -
I'm confused, cordless tools don't have wattage ratings so I'm not sure where you are getting 300w from ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

What makes you think that?
A watt is a watt irrespective of whether the volts and amps come through a cable from the mains or from an inbuilt rechargeable battery.
Even though a wattage rating for a battery product isn't given very often, it still can be.
Dewalt themselves state that the item in question is 300w:
http://products.dewalt.co.uk/powertools/productdetails/catno/DCS355D2/Battery chemistry XR Li-Ion
Voltage 18 V
Battery Capacity 2 Ah
Power Output 300 Watt0 -

If your claim is that it's "unfit for purpose" (faulty) then the 30 day satisfaction guarantee doesn't enter into it, and neither does it matter if you've used it.I was fitting some laminate flooring at my mothers house last weekend and needed something to undercut the door frames with.

if you read more than just the first post instead of trolling, I'm fitting laminate flooring to a whole house and I've cut ONE door and the unit was getting uncomfortably hot. I don't know about you, but I tend to call a building with only one door a shed or garage, not a home. I got 6 more doors to cut, 2 of which have 30% larger door architrave than the one I've done. So no, it's not done the job.
Will be heading over to Screwfix this weekend to pick up some more stuff anyhow so will take this saw back at the same time.0
