Servicing and PCP

Hi all,
I did a quick search but couldn't find the concrete answer. I have a car on PCP. I had the first service done by main dealer last year and it's due a second one now.
I've been looking to see if it absolutely must be carried out by a main dealer (left my documents at home - which obviously would be a good port of call to check!!), or if there are any consumer rights to allow servicing to be carried out by alternative garages.
One website states if there is a GFV then that often ties you in with the main dealer as the finance company likes the car to be seen as complete service history and roadworthy.
Has anyone else got any experience or thoughts on this?
