Pergola Height?

I'm looking at building a pergola at the bottom of my garden, but have heard there are some planning permission bits to think about?

I will be building the pergola the width of my garden at the bottom which is 3.5m wide, fence to fence at 2.8 high? Is this allowed? I've heard about restrictions building a pergola too close to the fence etc, and too high, but can anybody share some light for me?
