Stamp Duty form (SDLT1)

Has anyone any experience of completing this? We're about to exchange contracts and our solicitor has asked if we want to complete the form ourselves or pay them £50 +VAT to do it for us. I submit my husband's Self-Assessment tax return every year so I'm inclined to save the money and do this form myself. A quick look at the IR website seems to suggest it's quite straightforward and there's a help section on completing it.

I thought I'd just check first if anyone thought the same and wished they'd paid their solicitor.

i just paid the solicitor and be done with it. didnt really fancy any delays which could then delay exchange. I just thought, if Im spending thousands on a house whats £50? I rather those solicitors werent paid, but alas reality slapped me

I've had a quick look and I can't see any reason for you not to do it yourself using the guidance notes.

Think will do it myself. In the whole scheme of things, £50 (+VAT) isn't much to pay someone to do it, but in real life that money could be spent on new curtains , etc.
