I enquired about a buy to let mortgage for £95,000 and I have been told I will have to pay 1% of the mortgage ie £950 even though I have decided the mortgage offer is not for me. Is this normal practice of have I been ripped off.

  • Did you actually apply for the mortgage, i.e fill in a mortgage application?

    I very much doubt it.
Until you actually take the loan, you are simply just enquiring about the costs.
I've never heard of any 1% fee for an enquiry of a loan which has not been started.

You should check the small print though.

I read somewhere someone quoting "The big print giveth, the small print taketh away" which is very apt
