Thank you for an excellent explanation. I won't be needing to worry either way about calculating the impact of the 0.0005 cents!

I contacted Vanguard regarding a tax certificate last month, this was their reply

"Thank you for your message and for being with Vanguard through our first tax year in the UK.

We’re working hard on producing the annual tax statement for our clients with General Investment Accounts as soon as possible, however we are unable to provide a firm date at this stage. You’ll be notified when it’s ready and it will be in the documents section of your inbox"....

Have you or anyone else received a tax certificate on Vanguard's platform yet?

I am minded to invest with them but the fact they haven't been able to implement such a basic function of an investor platform despite having been in operation for a year doesn't inspire much confidence.

    OP here

I contacted them again recently and this is what they said:

Good afternoon and I hope you are well. Thanks for getting in touch, we appreciate it's been some time since the end of the tax year and you would like to submit your tax self-assessment as soon as possible.

We’re working hard on producing the annual tax statement for our clients with General Investment Accounts to help you accurately report your Vanguard holdings on your tax self-assessment. We hope to have this complete as soon as possible, however we are unable to provide a firm date at this stage. You’ll be notified when it’s ready and it will be in the documents section of your inbox.

In the meantime, if you need information about capital gains/losses before the statement is produced, you can find the total return in percentage and pound terms by going to Investments from the left hand side menu then clicking on to the performance tab and finally selecting “Investments” from the beige banner in the middle of the screen. Please adjust the dates using the calendar icon to match the time frame you’re looking for since the default only shows the last three months.

You can also see the details of your individual investments by going to the Contract Note that you would have received in your Inbox after you instructed the sell or buy order, again this can be found in the “Documents” section of your inbox and you can find dividend/ distribution information of your holdings by going to the "corporate actions" heading of the transactions section of your account.

Doesn't seem anything there that would put me off investing. You generally don't need to do a tax return until the end of Jan after the tax year's finished; and if you do (e.g., the taxman owes you money for a change, so that you're keen do your tax return before the final due date) it sounds like they are publishing the relevant documents for you to get hold of.

I received consolidated 17/18 tax certificates for our various Vanguard general accounts this morning. They also provided a link to assist with non-UK domiciled fund reporting.

  • Just spoke to Vanguard who said that they're still working on the Tax Statements. They probably wont be ready until July / August 2019. I have accounts with Hargreaves Lansdown and The Share Centre and they produced their tax statements by May. I'm concerned that Vanguard can't provide such a basic feature in a timely manner. A while ago Vanguard said their SIPP would be available by the start of 2019 and again there's no sign of this. I wonder if they have some serious IT issues? This makes me reluctant to make any more investments with them.
