Have you ever had to sit at a window with no blinds and the sun blasting in? It can quickly become unbearable. I'd be inclined to put in writing to management that the current working conditions are having a detrimental effect on health. That might spark them into some kind of action.

The windows are above head level.... and she said she was sitting by the window.

What she is describing sounds manageable by all the tips I’ve given her.

Women also find it too cold with air con on.... google air con is sexist

your symptoms sound like dehydration - i had an episode the same last week. Try and drink a pint of water/squash every 1-2 hours and see if that makes any difference.

At least in offices you have some respite. I have a friend who works for a major FTSE100 company who deliberately bought company vans without aircon in order to allegedly save money on fuel . Their workers are having a terrible time working upto 10 hour shifts and being baked alive. Typical corporate greed scum..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

You can get a cheap USB desk fan for £2.69 on amazon.

Check first, some companies have rigid rules about USB ports being used, mainly for data security issues, but it's best to be careful.

Really? Could a USB fan compromise data? I had no idea. I use a small USB fan and never even considered this.

In fact, thinking about it, I think 90% of my colleagues are using USB fans!

I suspect - but can't be sure - it's a blanket ban along the lines of "don't plug ANYTHING into the USB ports" and no-one's actually considered the use of USB fans. let's face it, they're not very big!

We have some terminals which don't read USBs, although I've yet to check if a fan would work.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • I work in a restaurant. We have to all get changed in a staff room (both female and male staff), so everyone just wears shorts and t-shirt under their clothes to save embarrassing themselves. We complained about the heat, and were literally told to stop wearing several layers of clothes. We even had a manager in the staff room making sure everyone complied, so now we've literally got male and female staff having to get changed in front of one another. So think yourself lucky!
