Is there life after a Mach III Turbo?
I've been using my trusty Gillette shaver for years now and obviously been paying for their expensive replacement blades. No complaints with them, good quality equipment. However, with the proliferation of Shave Clubs, I'm wondering whether I can achieve the same at a less expensive cost.
For example, ShaveClubUk does an equivalent to the Mach III they call "The Handlebar" which comes with 4 x 3 bladed razor heads all for £3.99 per month including 2nd class postage. The handle comes free with the first order. At £1 per blade, it is a fraction of the cost of Gillettes.
Anyone out their help a shave club virgin out... please?

I have been contemplating this myself as well just haven't taken the plunge yet!!
All advice would be great!0 -
I spent most of my adult life using the Mach razors and paying a small fortune for blades but I alway got a shaving rash no matter what gel or foam I used.
I priced different shave clubs but still found them quite expensive.
I decided to teach myself how to use a cut throat razor (one with changeable blades) and my rash and instantly gone and shaving is more like a small treat for my face - not to mention replacement blades only cost pennies.0 -

My husband swapped to a safety razor (butterfly type) a few years ago.
He shaves both his face and head (what little hair he has left). He needed to invest in a brush and bowl, but it has been so much cheaper and a better shave.0 -
Lidl's 5 blade Shark. I've tried every blade on the market, this is the best and the cheapest. Don't bother getting hoodwinked with any silly clubs.

I think best value is as spider in the bath said: get a vintage or new safety razor and buy blades for a few pence a pop. The trouble is it becomes a hobby and before you know it you have 20-odd razors and a cabinet full of soaps and brushes. At least the vintage razors are a safe investment and shouldnt depreciate.0

Some of the products from these clubs can be found on Amazon etc.
Not entirely sure on shaveclubuk but dollarshaveclubs drove razors are available with discounts on Amazon. I got a trial dorco with handle for 99p advertised at 5.99 but there was a discount code in the promotion tab on the advert. Also 16x5 blade for £10 so it's worth doing a little research on the products first as they may be available elsewhere. The dorco is just the executive razor on dollarclub. I'm more than happy with these razors too.0 -
Get yourself one of these:

We got one for my husband about 7 or 8 years ago following a previous recommendation on MSE and he's gone from changing his Gillette blade every week, to sometime between 4-6 months! A few swipes along the razorpit cleaner after use, with some gel or foam is all that is required to keep the blade clean which is why it looses it's sharpness if you don't.

Thank you ever so much for all your contributions, some excellent advice from MSEers yet again!
I don't think I've got the patience for the cut-throat razor and perhaps not the focus required early in the morning. It may be a retirement option though.
The safety razor, I think my dad used one of them when I was kid. It was a little stubby metal thing that looked like a mushroom. If I recall correctly when the bottom of the shaft was rotated the blade housing would open. Then the flat blade could be replaced, Wilkinson Sword rings a bell. That and the cutthroat were probably the only options them days. Will explore that avenue.
The razorpit is an excellent idea and that in conjunction with a cheap handle and cartridges from sources suggested here is also a strong contender.
Thank you once again, much appreciated.{Signature removed by Forum Team - if you are not sure why we have removed your signature please contact the Forum Team}

Exactly what my husband bought. Just checked Amazon and they are selling sets (razor, brush, foam block and 100 razors for less than £20).
They take a bit to get use to, but they are a lot cheaper to use0 -
A lot more environmentally friendly to use the old style ones as well!0
