To expand on westernpromise's definition, an incel is not merely someone who can't get any sex, in the same way that a petrolhead is not just someone who owns a car and a Christian isn't automatically a Bible-basher. To be an incel is essentially to define yourself as someone who can't get sex.
The philosophy of incels and crashtrolls / HPinCels is essentially identical but with "house" substituted for with "girlfriend". They don't have a house / girlfriend. Rather than ask themselves what positive actions they can take to get a house / girlfriend, they assert that it's everyone else's fault they don't have a house / girlfriend (which justifies their lack of action). Specifically, there is a conspiracy against them which takes the form of monetary policy / feminism.
Incels / HPinCels also believe that people who do have a house / girlfriend will get their comeuppance when house prices collapse / men are emasculated by their empowered wives / girlfriends. The contradiction between wanting a house / girlfriend yet believing that having a house / girlfriend will lead to disaster (financial ruin / emasculation) is never dwelt on..
Incels / HPinCels believe that a revolution is coming (house price crash / collapse of society due to feminism) after which they can buy a house for free / newly submissive women will acknowledge the incels' intellectual superiority over attractive, empathetic, mentally healthy "Brads" and all they have to do is sit in their echo chamber and wait. In reality what happens is that house prices will continue to increase / they will get increasingly less sexually attractive and the problem will get worse the longer they refuse to look at it.
Both groups refer to "taking the red pill" (a reference to The Matrix) as the act of buying into the (HP)incel philosophy - by which think they mean an awakening, of seeing the world as it truly is. Ironically, the Matrix's sequels revealed (according to one interpretation) that taking the red pill didn't cause you to enter the real world, but another fake reality. This second Matrix is for people who aren't happy with the comfortable existence of the first one and instead prefer to live in a miserable, impoverished, squalid world where they never see the sun and subsist on grey goop and the smug belief that they are cleverer than the far happier individuals who remain plugged into the giant battery. Remind you of anyone?
There is unsurprisingly a massive overlap between the two. Incels / HPinCels are near-universally male, unskilled or semi-skilled middle-class, if not unemployed. And they all hate women.1 -
Good analysis, but do they call us Brads or Chads? I've heard both.0

As long as it rhymes with "Dad" I think you can use any name you want.
As I mentioned, (HP)incels are near-universally middle-class. If you are born to a forklift driver or a fruitpicker it's fairly unlikely that you'll grow up under the impression that you deserve a supermodel girlfriend and a 3-bed semi in the city centre. (A few do but they become Marxists rather than incels.) The root cause of incelism is not ugliness or poverty, but inflated expectations and a total lack of desire to make those expectations realistic.
Where do these inflated expectations come from? The lifestyle that these middle-class expectorates grew up with as a child. (HP)incelism is a form of Oedipus complex; it is envy of the lifestyle that the incel's dad was able to afford and the woman he was able to attract, and that the incel is unable to earn for himself now that he is an independent adult.
Deep down all incels want to marry their mum and they hate themselves because they know they wouldn't stand a chance.
It is therefore not a coincidence that when incels were choosing a name to embody their enemies, they chose not just one but two that rhymed with "Dad".0 -
In Crashymandias' defence let's not forget that cash millionaires are usually perfectly happy to put their money on deposit (in 58 different banks to obtain the FSCS protection) and to earn less than inflation on it there.0

I particularly enjoyed de haut en bas gems from him like In the world of global capital flows and macro economics, where a sliver can make the difference between success or failure, profit or loss, that is a huge jump. Ah, we hapless little people of MSE! We know nothing. What can we know of "global capital flows and macro economics, where a sliver can make the difference between success or failure"? We needed people like Crashymandias - far sighted visionary colossi, bestriding the world and seeing further than mere mortals - to give us the perspective we lack; to explain why a 0.25% interest rate rise is such a big f cking deal.
But sadly he's flounced off back to his bedsit. Was he Crashy all along?0 -
far sighted visionary colossi
I don't consider myself financially sophisticated, but it seems to me common sense that if you have a nominal mortgage payment then as time goes by things get easier so you are less exposed to the slings and arrows or outrageous fortune (unless of course you decide to site on the sidelines).0 -
What's an 'archived user', and how can one of them post on the boards?0
