insurance on account

Options
My elderly mother in law has run into some trouble with her bank. She has dementia and we hadn't realised the state of her finances until we have just got power of attorney. Barclays have been charging her a 10£ fee every month for tech cover ? and also a £11.50 fee for a travel pack? I asked the bank what are they for. One is for travelling insurance or break down in a car the other to cover her tablets computer etc....She is 78 years old! Hasn't travelled or had a car in over 8 years and has never owned a computer or other tech. Can we make a claim back on the fees? Does anyone know where I can start ? cheers

You can complain about them certainly if you provide evidence the package was worthless (though it's not impossible she could have willingly taken the package out at some point in the past). You would need something like power of attorney to complain on her behalf

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

As POA has already been granted to the OP, complaining won't be a problem. The main issue is whether the customer purchased the insurance (rather than being sold it) and perhaps whether she was of sound mind when she did so.

The OP will need to provide evidence that his mother-in-law has no need of ANY aspect of this insurance. Does the insurance cover other eventualities?

Also, is this stand alone insurance or simply an additional benefit of a packaged bank account?

Yeah I misread that, good spot. OP needs to include a copy

It's an old packaged account (possibly the Additional Plus). They had largely discontinued these and moved people to free accounts but added on the paid for tech pack and travel pack as optional addons and are useless if OP's parent doesn't travel / doesn't have expensive tech

    Bit more detail
