Can you install android onto the laptop directly ? (it is arguably a flavour of linux, though not the more usual gnu/linux)
Could configure to dual-boot with something else.0 -

Google Remix OS. It's getting on a little, but is still very good.0 -
Google Remix OS.
If Windows 10 is slow on my netbook what makes you think an emulator running on it would be any faster?over 73 but not over the hill.0 -

Did you even read what Remix OS is? It's not an emulator. It can be run in an emulator if you desire. It's a full fledged (and working) Android x86 Port that runs on PC hardware, with a customised desktop UI. It's as close to a usable desktop Android experience as you'll get......
You can dual boot it with Windows with almost no skills whatsoever... so even a technophobe can install it.0 -

that is another failure, won't even boot from the USB, sits at a flashing cursor. Was windows 10 the 32 bit version you installed? It works better with older limited spec hardware.
I've tried it with both versions.
They both suck.over 73 but not over the hill.0 -
With Windows 10, check what is hogging the resources in Task Manager. It's likely to be some Windows updates which take about 10 minutes on a fast computer to complete - so I would imagine longer still on your slow computer.
Something else to consider is updating the drivers. I find Snappy Driver Installer Origin very reliable for this task and simple to use.
Ensure Windows 10's power settings aren't set to put the computer to sleep after something like 15 minutes. Then leave the laptop connected to a power source for as long as it takes for Task Manager to show a settled down computer - ie: not much resources being used.0
