Pot hole damage

about 2 weeks ago I hit a pot hole on my motorbike
actually this was not a pot hole , it was a half finished repair to the road with no warning signs or notices
the local counsil had hired contractors to "scrape back the road and relay tarmac , this was in about 8 areas on a 200-300 mtr section
they had completed the job , and simply run out of tarmac and "gone home"
In took photos at the time
damage was caused to my motorbike , front wheel is buckled by hitting the ramp section of the hole
I came home and immediately reported it to LCC (lancs county counsil) , and believe it or not , 4 hrs later , not only has the job been finished , but there were warning signs up !
having spoken to local residents , the scape and repair was done the previous day , with workmen leaving at about 4pm
I have received a claim form , but not happy with some of there questions and requests
I can live with sending them a copy of my driving licence
I can live with sending copy of my MOT
I can live with the fact of having to prove the bike was taxed
however I object to giving them he name of my insurance company , as I do not intend to claim from them , nor do I want LCC to speak to them
just how much info can they ask for , or I am obliged to give
the claim is approx £150 - £200

And at your insurance renewal time, how do you propose to answer the question
"have you made any claims/suffered any losses/had any accidents in the last X years?"
You are required to inform your insurer anyway about any accident/loss/claim even if it is not your fault, and you don't intend to claim from your insurer. This is so that they can increase your premium next year.
As to whether you have to tell the Council who your insurer is, probably not, it wouldn't matter if the 'bike was not MOT'd, taxed, insured, or driven by someone with a licence, if the Council are liable through the negligence of their workers/contractors, then they are liable whatever the circumstances of the 'bike .
No doubt they won't process your claim unless you tell them though.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science )0 -
If the claim is 150-200 then as much as this is an absolute ball ache I wouldn’t bother carrying it through as your excess is probably going to be £100 anyway. Then there is the renewal hikes etc...
Those type of potholes are a real shock to the wheels hitting them square on, I think most of us have hit one at some point or another and I can imagine it was a bang and a half on your bike.0 -
I suspect the reason for the question about the insurer is fairly simple, along with the other questions they are making sure that you are actually legally driving the vehicle at the time and also I suspect need it to check you are not attempting to double claim.
I wouldn't be surprised if they get a lot of people trying it on.
With regards to the speed at which they fixed it after being notified, that doesn't seem to be overly uncommon once notified of a dangerous hole, I've reported a couple out of hours that were smaller (but deeper) and they'd been fixed by the time I went past them the next morning.0 -
double claim ?
but if you claimed from your insurer , they would try to recoup from local authority and it would be flagged up immediately
I have a £300 excess , and after being knocked off my bike last year (no fault but disclosed) know that they will stick 10% next year0
