CIFAS on my Equifax!

Hi all,

I had an application fraud marker on with CIFAS, which after appealing against the lender two weeks ago they have removed! Good news.

However annoyingly, and presumably related to the removal (or else me subsequently asking CIFAS to check it's definitely gone) my Equifax report shows last week that:

"CIFAS , a Miscellaneous company, has made an inquiry against your credit report".

This is very annoying! Could anyone help clarify:

1. why this is even on there; I mean surely CIFAS don't need to use Equifax to search for their own data!

2. will other lenders see this search (or particularly that CIFAS did it!) when I apply and get credit searched for future loans/mortgage?

Many Thanks

Other lenders don't see the names of those who search.

CIFAS won't be searching for their own data. They're searching the Equifax data.

Thanks zx81. Why would CIFAS be searching my Equifax then as part of the process of SAR or removing this marker? Not like they are issuing credit to me!

Because you asked them to check that the data was removed from your files.

They can only do that by checking your files.

In addition to the reply from zx81 the search is likely to be a soft search and not a credit search. I suggest checking your file on Clearscore where credit searches are separated from other searches and makes them easy to identify. Lenders who search your file only see credit searches. At least that's the theory.

Thanks. Yes checked Clearscore and they don't fall under credit searches.
