Hi,
Sorry if this has been answered before but I can’t find it. I have my Gas and Electricity with e.on until 2nd August and have a penalty for leaving early. I want to switch to SSE Swalec (via the cheap energy club) who have an offer on at the moment but can’t see an option to start after 2nd August in the same way that I can do with car insurance. Do I have to wait until nearer the time to ensure the switchover date is after 2nd August or is there anything I can do now?
Thanks!

If you are on a fixed term contract. E.oN should have sent you an e-mail stating that your present contract is coming to an end in the period 49 to 42 days before the contract end date. You are then free to switch with no threat of having to pay an exit fee.
Provided E.oN is notified via industry procedures that a transfer of supply is in progress no later than end of contract plus 20 days, you have E.oN tariff price protection until the transfer goes through.
Can you explain more about SSE Swalec's offer? You would be well advised to do a full market price comparison using kWhs/year for gas and electricity to see if there are any cheaper deals. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Go ahead and make the switch. As long as you are within the last 49 days of your existing plan, exit fees cannot be charged. It will state this in your T's and C's.0

You were free to move from 14 June, have you not received the information from E.On stating this that they are obliged to send you by their licence conditions ?0

Thanks for all the replies. If I'd read the information carefully, it said "if you decide to switch supplier, we won't charge you an exit fee on your electricity and gas tariff." I just assumed that the exit fee continued until the contract was up. Now I know better!

I have another, related question. Relatives of mine have their fixed deal with eon expiring on 13th November. Eon say their best deal would cost £690 a year compared to the £520 they paid this year. Edf, on the other hand would charge £596 on a fixed rate until the end of October 2019.
Obviously they could switch now and not be charged a penalty but should they do so given they will be moving to a more expensive tarried than they are currently on? Would it be better to wait 2-3 weeks? Is it likely the edf tarrif would still be there?0 -

Will Mrs May still be Prime Minister this time next week? I haven’t a clue. In truth, only EDF can answer your question. Tariffs are often withdrawn at short notice because suppliers limit the number of consumers that they will accept. They like to try and kept an even flow of customer deals ending throughout the year. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
