Small personal journey last hurdle need help

Good afternoon all,

I can honesty say the members here have helped me get through some really tough Financial Times along side my super supportive partner.

I served in the military from 18 for 6 years where I accumulated most of my debt. First was a car loan, then credit card, loan for a holiday then payday loans to pay off payday loan etc etc. I can honestly say, it was all my fault getting in such a pickle. Me and my partner broke as I couldn’t face the shame telling her why I couldn’t afford to travel up and see her. After w few months I told her everything and she really has been a solid rock for me along the way. The last 3 years I have worked 6-7 days a week and managed to clear alll debt bar one tricky one. I had a current account with HSBC and a overdraft, loan and credit card. The credit card had about £1000 on it and the account about £1800. Both accounts were sold to a debt collecting service ( I believe owned by HSBC ). And then moved onto another. I have lost trace whom the debt is with but I have had 0 contact with anyone regarding this for the last 2 years. The default first registered on both the credit card and account in March 2014.

I am currently living with my partner in our house ( she as the home owner ) and since we moved in at Christmas we have been splitting everything 50/50 with a drawn up contact between us in case we separate !!!128542;.

My credit score is at 300, going up very slowly from the lowest. I have a credit card with capital one with a small credit limit I just use for fuel. And just home 2 X hsbc outstanding loan. I am unsure wether to try and hunt down HSBC and find out who to pay or keep money away in a low interest saver to pay off in case they ask for it back?

Does this have a big impact on my credit score? It says I have 0 agreements outstanding which doesn’t make sense to me.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

GW

God news and bad news. Your credit score is a fictional number from the CRAs. It doesn't reflect anything of how lenders see you, which is why they don't see or use it.

Moving forward - if a debt appears on your credit file, it looks much better to lenders if you have settled it. After all, if you still haven't repaid previous debts, they will doubt you will repay new ones.

Remember to check all three files.
  • I have seen a lot on the forum about credit ratings being the third tick in the box as such.

    Many thanks

The ratings don't even make it close to the box.
