    To add, if you don't want to go down the insurance route then I see you have 2 options.

    Firstly you could say that the goods don't conform to contract (ie the pursue the seller). Maybe the problem is inherent and nothing to do with the fix. As the goods are over 6 months old it's up to you to prove this. So you'd need an expert to establish cause.

    Secondly you say the fix caused the problem and pursue tha garage for negligence and claim from their insurance. Again though, you will need to prove this via an expert.

    So you need to weigh up the cost of the expert (which you can claim back if you win) vs your current £500 loss and take into account if he finds nothing you are down his cost plus your original £500
