SSE Home Services Refund
Hi all,
My first post on here, hopefully you can all help me out
I've had boiler cover with SSE home services for the past couple of years. Unfortunately, they have just informed me that they can't continue to cover my boiler because it is in the loft, which doesn't have a fixed ladder.
I understand the health and safety reasons behind this, but apparently its been the policy for the past few years. Which means I've been paying for cover this entire time (at >£18 per month) which hasn't been valid. In this time two of their engineers have been out to give the boiler a check up and neither of them mentioned the fact that my boiler may not be covered.
I think I'm due a full refund of all the money that I've been paying over the last two years for this cover that was never valid in the first place, but SSE are being evasive.
What are your thoughts, do I have a case here and how can I take it further?
Thanks,
Calum

No, I doubt it.
Unless, of course, that you attempted to use the cover and were denied? Then yes I would say you would be.
But as you mention you've had 2 visits (I assume annual?) to check the boiler, then I would say that SSE have provided the service which you were paying for if they did indeed check the boiler, and you have had no need to call them out for other issues.0 -
The key phrase you use in your post is "they can't continue to cover my boiler" that means you were insured and they are now saying that we need to cancel the policy due to health and safety concerns. While you have had that policy you have been fully covered and can't ask for any money back. If you can't find anyone else who will take you, you could invest in a fixed ladder to the loft and by the sounds of it continue the cover.0
