External bare hard drive not recognised

Options
I have 3 hard drives salvaged from redundant pcs which I use for storage. I access them via a Sata hub with a power lead and usb and last used them a month ago. I tried the other day and even tho the light is on the sata external hub as soon as I put the hard drive in the lights go out and not a thing happens. I tried on a different pc and borrowed someone’s sata hub just in case mine was faulty but exactly same thing. Doesn’t show as a drive and completely dead. If it was just one drive I maybe would have thought it was broken but is all 3 a co incidence. Is there another way I can try to get the data off them.

Open up your PC, use the second sata port. Hopefully you have a second sata power connector too. If you have a laptop then this method will be no good for you.

    try another USB port.

Windows has the annoying habit of ignoring something if it's plugged in and removed a few times.

If you try a different USB port it might find it (and install it) again.

just had two thoughts: it is a sata disk, not a sas disk? The drives were not in a storage array or part of a san?
