  • just because Ed has views that are not yours does not mean that they should not be aired, and without the banter between Ed and Dunstonh this would be a poorer forum to look into

    keep going Ed

Hello Retired I.F.A, welcome to the site.

All views are encouraged here, including yours :)

  • A forum where everyone agrees?

Perish the thought, where's the fun?

On a serious note, no one has the monopoly on good (or bad) ideas. Without debate and challenge to one's views, they would never evolve or improve.

    your there

When you're trying have a pop at someone at least try and make it grammatically correct

P.S. He doesn't post absolute rubbish either.........just because some of his views do not fit into the cosy world of what is the current fashionable I.F.A. 'perceived wisdom' it does not automatically mean he is wrong.

  • Stuff grammer I'm posting on a forum not writing a reason why letter.

And no I'm not Dunstonh's dad If I was i'd kick his !!!! and get him to delete every post he's ever made on this site pronto before the PIA (Pillocks In Authority) fine him thousands for giving advice without having done a fact find A disclaimer under every post aint good enough for them I bet.

I reckon the fine for EdInvestor ought to be double that though as she not only gives unauthorised advise out it's invariably the sort thats gaurenteed to get a fail in any FPC exam.

I think you will find that Dunstonh is clear that he doesnt give 'advice'. Why not go the whole hog and shut this part of the site down??? Is that what you want Mr Retired I.F.A.? If it wasn't for the comments, discussion and contributions from Ed, Dunstonh, Jamesd et al this would be a poorer site and there would be many 100's of people living in complete ignorance of our overcomplicated fiscal system. If I were you retired I.F.A. I would consider getting a hobby in retirement..how about a cruise (long one).

Here's what it says at the bottom of the page:
This website is based on journalistic research. It does not constitute financial advice. Any information should be considered in regard to specific circumstances. All tips are followed at your own risk and should be followed up with your own research .
No regulated "advice" is given on this website by anyone, regardless of who or what they claim to be, including you and me - and Martin, as he says.. What people will find on this website is information and opinion. It is up to them to do their own research into what is said. They follow any suggestions they read here at their own risk.

If they want the protection against missellling that they get with regulated advice, then they need to consult a regulated advisor. None of the IDs of any of the people on this site are checked by the site, and none of their claims to be brokers or advisors, active or retired, are verified by the site.

Most people reading these forums are probably aware of that by now. But as you're new, I thought it might be helpful to spell it out. :)

Its been tested. Someone complained to the regulator many years back on a discussion thread I contributed to and they looked into it. It was classed as a nuisance complaint as the person hadn't posted the full thread and had done selective copy and pasting.

As the posts were discussion based and not giving advice there was no case to answer. The signature I use was the one suggested by them and my compliance department.

If you look at my posts, you will usually see that I point out errors and things to look out for and maybe some options but you wont see me saying what you should do. The language of the post tends to be quite wishy washy too with lots of "maybe" and "could". This too was the suggested approach.

I have to say the experience with the regulator was very helpful and common sense based. They were very positive about discussion being a good thing.
I also have to say that the person that sent in the complaint to them was a complete idiot and it is unfortunate that there are such people around who go to such lengths to attempt to create trouble for others. If they don't like what is said, then they could always post their view.

Ed frustrates me at times with her black and white responses when so often cases are shades of grey. Yes it will be the right response 70% of the time but no consideration is given for the 30% when it isn't. The lack of disclosure on possible negatives is another issue. Such as promoting high risk transactions to people that really shouldn't be considering them or using worst examples of one product to compare against the best of another. Advisers have come and gone and all have shown frustrations at some of Eds comments at some point. Even a number of the regular posters who are not advisers have.

However, its an open forum. She posts her view, I post mine, as do the others. If there are conflicting views, then its up to the individual poster to decide what to do. If they want to act on non-regulated, unqualified comments from unknowns on the Internet then that is their choice.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.
