Wasp nest

We had a wasp nest in the loft area which is accessed through a room upstairs. The council dealt with the wasps from the outside and they have gone

Its on the lining of the roof which isnt easy to get too as there is insulation below it and the loft is only partially boarded

Does the nest they made need to be removed from inside the loft or can it be left. I am worried about it smelling more than anything

You can leave it where it is. It won't be used again and any smell is unlikely to be very strong, or last for long.

On the plus side, I seem to recall wasps will not make a nest where they spot one already there. For this reason dummy nests can be bought

No idea if this is fact or myth, but as Dave says, they will not reuse it

It may still cause some problems, and mask others. If it was a large nest, it may have slightly damaged the felt it you have any, and might just increase timber for risk.

These are very very slight risks, not worth getting someone out for alone. But, it's worth making a mental note, and getting someone to remove it and fix any problems that might develop, when they are coming to fix something else.

Wasps won't come back. Possibly, a few bed species might use the nest, but only small-colony ones.
