Soundproofing garden fence/wall

Have a neighbor who is pounding the garden fence on our shared boundary, with balls.

Its very loud, can last most of the day during school holidays. The fence is rapidly coming apart and looks pretty bad.

I'd like to get the fence reinforced, and then place a soundproof barrier to diminish the noise, plus dense vegetation.
The soundproof barrier could be another wall on my side of the battered fence, with sound insulation. Be better if it were a solid wall, as once they have destroyed their fence they will probably focus on the next barrier.

Then dense bushes, trees to stop the balls coming over, as they have damaged property and nearly caused injury.

Any suggestions appreciated regarding the soundproof garden wall.

  • You!!!8217;re not going to be able to soundproof it.

Have you thought about talking to your neighbours and asking them to stop?

Failing that, if it!!!8217;s your fence, remove it and plant a hedge.

Who and what? hitting golf balls, kicking football,s bouncing softballs, baseball etc
Most there is nothing you can do to stop noise they can just bounce it on the floor on a piece of wood etc give them a net, As it just sounds like kids playing Learn to ignore it.

The only sound proofing you can get (we have the same problem as you) is fencing that is the same as used on motorways. However, I am not sure if it would help with impact noise. Hence we didn't buy it.

A loud water feature can help. A 6 foot brick wall, as well as a fence, with maybe some bamboo might make a difference. But you would lose space as it would have to be on your side.

If it is your fence, legally they can't touch it with anything. You could claim the cost of anything they have destroyed.

I feel your pain. The thud, thud accompanied by very loud screaming really is the pits.

Soundproofing won!!!8217;t work in an open space. If it!!!8217;s your fence, grow a dense hedge your side of it and then take the fence down. Kicking a ball against a hedge won!!!8217;t amuse kids for long. You will probably have to stomach it this summer but you might be ready for next year.

If the fence is at the stage where it's soon to break .... I'd just use 2-3 horizontal bits of wire .... and grow a prickly bush there. Really prickly .... I might even paint it with jam to attract wasps if they really pee'd me off once that's up.

    Bugga Em.

    Chavs need to be stopped.

I can't understand why any parent would allow their kid to kick balls against any property boundary fences ... without confiscating the ball and smacking them on the 4rse and sending them to their room.

You have had at least one post on this before.

Soundproofing in open spaces is impossible at the minor works level and growing anything that will deflect balls will take time. Obvious candidates there are eucalyptus and leylandii, but maybe they should have been planted some time ago when you started the last thread on this.

The problem is that it's likely to be in a residential area with other neighbours, who'd have to suffer any effective auditory retaliation. Otherwise, I'd suggest giving them opera to live with in return....

What's that? You don't like opera? Well, we all like different things, and kids have always liked kicking balls against whatever's available.

If its your fence replace the panels with plastic netting or chain link fencing on their side cable tied to the posts and something attractive on your side.

Explain criminal damage to the parents.

You called me a git before a moderator removed it.

This isnt the third world, where fences can be kicked down for the pleasure of trashy little chavs. If you think this sort of behavior is ok...
