Samsung TiVo box connection to non VM TV for playback

I have a Samsung SMT-C7100 TiVo box from my parents' old house. Virgin Media say they don't want it back. I have the power supply but no remote and I have freeview only, no cable subscription.

I want to check whether there are any recordings on it but when connected to TV via scart the TV just sits there displaying "starting up". I've tried connecting the able coax too, just in case, but this makes no difference. Apparently when one of these boxes has been switched off for a while it may take 5 mins or so to sort itself out, but I'm getting the startup screen indefinitely.

Without a VM sub and without taking it apart is there any way I might be able to find out what (if anything) is on the HDD?

Thanks in anticipation.

If there is anything there it's more than likely encrypted, take the HD out if you have a use for it, otherwise recycle.

Do you know anyone who has a VM subscription you could ask if they would allow you to hook it up to the connectoon and see if you can get it going that way.

If you do find anything on there how would you get it the recordings off the drive ?

Just recycle it as Colin says.

That still woudn't work as the box has to be paired to the account

Thanks everyone, I've just taken a screwdriver to it and removed the HDD, which is a 3.5" Seagate one. I have a suitable caddy (I think) so when I feel inclined I'll see if my computer will read anything off it, and if not, I'll attempt to format it so I can use it as external storage. The case and rest of the guts can go to the tip for electrical recycling,
