I am in the process of buying a home with my partner ..we put an offer in on a house which was accepted and gathered together a 10% deposit!
Everything was good to go until our mortgage advisor said there was something on my credit file that was causing problems in securing a mortgage in principal!
I’ve paid to re-join Experian and from this I can see there is an address linked to me..an address I’ve never lived at!!! I can see from the report a debt collecting agency is linked to this address so I’m guessing the occupant had used my details to open credit accounts/catalogues. I recall a few years ago reporting this to the police and action fraud but that’s as far as it went!
I’m devastated as is my partner as this is obviously affecting us getting the house with a 10% deposit we’ve been advised until this is rectified we would have to increase our deposit!
I don’t know what to do..is it likely these accounts and address can be removed from my credit file??? Would my credit file improve instantly if these were removed?

Raise a dispute with all CRAs where it appears. Once it's removed, there will be no trace.
But stop paying for Experian. Just get your free reports and save your cash for soft furnishings etc.0 -
Am I best off putting it all in writing to the relevant CRA!!!8217;s?
I!!!8217;ve contacted Equifax and raised a dispute Ive also contacted my local police force/data protection asking for a copy of the original incident I reported about the fraudulent activity with someone using my details!
Is there anything else I can do for now?0 -
You can do it online.0

You best best it to contact lenders - and explain your situation and ask to amend CRA files.0

I!!!8217;ve contacted Equifax, Experian, my local police force to get a copy of the initial incident report along with emailing the CRA involved. Suppose I just gotta sit tight and wait now!
I have seen another property which I could cover a 15% deposit easily which my mortgage advisor said lenders will want a larger deposit because of the defaults currently showing! Is that right?0 -
Larger deposits lower the risk for lenders.0

Its not a case your credit file will improve if the incorrect data is removed but more a case of it wont be on your report to see.
Oh and stop paying for experian, theres 3 other agencies so get your report from them whilse your at it.0 -
I’ve received a response from the CRA inviolved. From the document they’ve sent me I can see that there are four accounts but where it says ‘application address’ it’s states ‘not available’. Does this mean they are unable to provide the address for where the credit was taken out from?0
