Surely it's the role of MPs to listen to grievances of their constituents and take matters up with the government as appropriate. As per my previous note there has been a change of policy and it would be completely appropriate for MPs to ask if this was appropriate.

Sorry, that went right over my head but I can see your point!

  • I've had notification of a tax rebate which relates to over paid tax prior to being on universal credit, so these earnings are prior to being on the benefit, I am now in full time employment with a top up of universal credit, I feel that it would be wrong to deduct the 63p in the pound, on my next UC statement due to the earnings would've been in my bank and not extra tax prior to being on the benefit, it just sll doesn't make sense! I was also under the impression that UC only RTI data they receive is from employers regarding your NI number. HELP!! ☹

It’s better to start a new thread rather than tack on to a six month old one otherwise your question will just get muddled up with details of original post.

Unfortunately although you may feel it is wrong (with which I agree), provided the rebate relates to a tax year during which you were at some time in paid employment, under UC the rebate is treated as earnings (even if the tax was original paid on investments).
