Credit File

Is there a way to get a copy of your credit file without it being recorded on your credit record?

I heard that there are two main credit ref companies and one that is free (noddle) but that your accessing it creates a record and your address on the credit file.

Does GDPR mean that one can get the report free now?

You can get the reports free regardless of GDPR.

Remember you need to check all three CRAs, via Noddle, Clear score and MSE.

They may update your records with any new address.

No need to send a postal order anymore or do it in writing. You can access it online via the interwebs.

They make their money via lenders and by selling pointless score improvement and alert services to customers.

You need to provide an email address to get the report. I don't believe lenders see it. It would be of little use.

You need to provide more than an email address.

Or can we all search each other's credit records now if we provide an email address?

I really hope I don't need to answer that one for you...

When reviewing a credit report, there is no hard search created, meaning it cannot be seen by lenders. A record of the credit file being retrieved is created, however this is not the same as a credit check.

You cannot open someone else's credit file using an email address. In fact, even if using someone's real information (e.g date of birth and address), agencies such as CallCredit require an additional layer of ID Verification to ensure the information request is genuine.

The questions asked during ID Verification are generated automatically, based on information from your credit file, which no one other than the data subject should be able to correctly answer.
