I think I died seven times, just looking at the photo.

Are you the person who insists on turning unused sockets off, to stop the electrickery leaking out?

Did you actually read my post? Did you see our house? Not a LL by any chance, are you?

Is there some part of "Bakelite" that is getting past you, LL? Whatever. My house, my choice.

Bakelite sockets and light fittings, one socket did not even have an on/off switch: You turned it on by plugging something into it. Also only one per room, it was a no brainer.
The peace of mind you have knowing your wiring is safe and having more sockets than you can use is worth every penny, imho.

    HTH.

Sounds like my mother's house. It was built in 1953 and I worried about it for years - not just as a fire risk but all those lurking extension leads waiting to trip her up. But she was a hoarder and didn't want people in the house.

I eventually managed to get it organised in 2011. The electrician cheerfully informed me that the original wiring had been a quality job and was still in good condition!

But it was no longer a worry and there were all those new extra sockets in sensible positions and a few other additions.

I once spent ages trying to work out what was wrong with a lamp - changing bulbs and fuses, to find out later that my recent visitor was the sort who switched things off at the socket. I'd had the plug out and not even then looked at the switch as I only switch them off if I'm going away.
