My Insurer or third Party
Hi,
My vehicle was damaged whilst parked. 3rdparty was kind enough to leave her details.
We have been in touch with Directline (my insurer) who are arranging repairs and a hire car for duration. They are confident they will be able to reclaim all costs from 3rd party
3rd party insurer (Sabre) have since contacted me offering to carry out repairs and provide hire car. They suggest this will cost less and avoid claim on my insurance.
I see no advantage in using 3rd service and see a risk if repairs are not carried out to our satisfaction.
Any comments?

The advantage of going via the third party is that you don't pay your excess and get it back later if everything goes OK.0

Regardless you'll get stung in future when you have to answer the question of 'have you made a claim in the last 3 years, regardless of who was at fault"

You only get "stung" if you are foolish
Just renewed my insurance, and after shopping around it went up a grand total of £4 and stayed with the same company
I had an at fault claim during the period of this policy and a non fault claim a few years previous
Was over 1400 to fix my car, so ill live with the 4 quid0 -
The main advantage with going with the 3rd party's insurer is that you know that they won't quibble about the cost.
Your own insurance company may be handing you over to a claims company. They will get a commission for doing that. The claims company may find the most expensive car hire deal, and most expensive garage to do the work. At the end, there is the risk that the 3rd party's insurance company will then refuse to pay because it's too much. This doesn't happen very often, but it does happen. That leads to a court case, where the 3rd party's insurer accuses you of unreasonably inflating the cost of the claim, and only offering to pay part of it.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
And there is an incidence of this on this forum about a year ago...0
