New boiler - which certificates?

I had a new boiler fitted a few months ago. The fitters were Corgi registered & they tell me they don't have to give me any certificates for the work & that all they need to do is notify the local council of the new installation. Is this true cos I notice quite a few experts here refer to Building Reg & installation certificates being provided.

I've sent an email asking for advice from Corgi but I'm still waiting several weeks later!

Many thanks.

We have a new (2005) condensing boiler fitted by Iguana (part of Warm Front) and hve just waded through all the documents and booklets I accumulated at the time. The gas fitter left a document which says at the top LANDLORD/HOME OWNER GAS SAFETY RECORD. It is signed by the fitter and by myself. The regulations about boilers have changed in the last few years and the whole emphasis seems to be on efficiency. I do remember when I was researching it all that it was mentioned that the local council must be informed when a new boiler has been fitted. I have a few booklets sent to me by
ENERGY EFFICIENTY BEST PRACTICE IN HOUSING

They give a lot of information about the way things should be done etc. You can contact the helpline on 0845 120 7799 to discuss your concerns or send an email to ....bestpractice@est.org.uk and visit their website for more info at www.est.org.uk/bestpractice

I think you are right about certificates being given but I am not quite sure what they are called. You will certainly get the right information if you contact one of the links above. A local engineer who was going to do the work did say something about not having to issue a certificate or fit a condensing boiler as long as he informed the local authority. You could also ask the council if this is correct.

When we had our new boiler in October 2006 we received two certificates:

    1) CORGI Building Regulations Compliance certificate
    2) NICEIC Electrical Installation work certificate of compliance

Telephone numbers taken from my certificates (I'd look them up on saynoto0870):

    Corgi customer services 0870 401 2300
    NICEIC 0870 013 0462

    Hope that helps

You must have a BENCHMARK Book supplied with all new boilers. It is completed by installer with all his details (Corgi Reg. No. etc.,) Gives commissioning details and when you get it serviced should also be filled in by engineer
