Immersion heater

Hello all,

Had my kitchen done up last October and as we were getting a bit of plastering done I got the spark to remove the immersion switch from the kitchen as we rarely use it, however during the recent good weather I decided to switch the immersion on in the hotpress but there is no power getting to it via that switch either now.

Would that switch be dead now because the other switch was removed from the circuit?

I have checked the 15a fuse for the circuit and all seems in order, ran the immersion from another socket via an extension and it works ok...just to check it, I know that isnt a long term solution.

Any clues anyone?

The switch in the hot press is simply an isolator enabling it to be worked on. If the other switch has been removed then this isolator will no longer be getting any power. So no, you cannot operate the immersion simply from the hot press with the other switch removed.

It may be that the electrician did just what you asked him to - removed the switch.

Were the wires that were going into the switch joined together with a terminal block, Wagos or the like, or were they just insulated and left disconnected?

If you haven't already checked, have a look at the consumer unit (fuse box) to check that it is turned off there.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
