Buildings and Contents insurance problem with Mortgage.

Hi
I took out a mortgage just over 2 years ago with Leeds BS. I never recieved a final confirmation of the terms. I've just found out that I've had building and contents insurance through them for that whole period whilst I've been paying for separate insurance!(underwritten by Norwich Union)
I never recieved any information about the built in insurance policy (which wasn't compulsory), also in my statement, they never mention the cost of the insurance either. It's built into the price of the mortgage. I was wondering if I've been mis-sold the policy (it's also twice as expensive as the one I purchased for less cover). Can I recover any of the money I've paid as I obviously did not want or need two policies?
Thanks for your help.

Yes. Very easily. Contact both insurance companies giving them full details of each others policies and give permission for them to discuss your plans with each other and they will sort out the dual insurance between them and arrange a refund.
Its not uncommon for people to arrange insurance twice.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Cheers for that! At least there's hope of getting my money back.
One question though. Is it normal not to give me any details of the insurance policy? Not even mention I'm paying for one, and how much I'm paying for it?0 -

You would have been sent documentation at the start and each annual renewal. If you havent been getting it, then I would ask them where they have been sending it. Sometimes the previous address isnt changed for communication purposes. Not even mention I'm paying for one, and how much I'm paying for it?
Where are the premiums being paid from? I am guessing the mortgage account. This used to the most common way it was done but its obsolete nowadays. Leeds set up many that way in the past.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Thanks again. I've finally got hold of a copy if the insurance policy which came with the mortgage, not very impressed with it. I guess I shouldn't be suprised. I'll have a conversation with them about it all now.0
