garden bench - pine knots weeping sap

Hello,
my garden bench with pine slats has several places on it where pine resin comes out. I have to put a towel on before I sit on it.
I have googled to find out how to cure this however it seems it is unlikely to be successful.
the screws are rusted and weathered so do not think they will come out easily to replace the whole seat.
can anyone suggest a solution or what I could use to put on top of the wooden slats either permanently or just for the summer that would look good ?
thanks Anne

You can buy knotting solution from DIY shops. I bought some and it comes with a little brush inside the lid. You just paint it on the knots and it seals them.
I have only used this on woodwork indoors to seal it prior to painting but it is worth a try outdoors too0 -
The normal knotting you get is shellac based. It won't stand being outdoors. Sorry! You can buy knotting solution from DIY shops. I bought some and it comes with a little brush inside the lid. You just paint it on the knots and it seals them.

OP, the answer really is replace the slats with non knotty timber.0
